Our Story
Our Story
HBCU Homecoming Experience was founded by Indira Gooding, a proud Alabama State University alumna with deep HBCU roots and a family legacy connected to Morehouse College and Spelman College.
Growing up surrounded by HBCU pride and tradition, Indira understood the importance of preserving our culture and celebrating the institutions that have shaped generations of Black excellence.
Her vision was to create a platform that not only celebrates the HBCU experience but also shines a light on smaller and often overlooked HBCUs that deserve the same recognition, visibility, and opportunities as larger, more widely recognized institutions.
What began as a passion for HBCU culture has grown into a movement dedicated to amplifying untold stories, connecting generations, and celebrating the unique traditions of HBCUs through media, storytelling, events, and community engagement.
Our mission is simple: Every HBCU has a story worth telling, a legacy worth preserving, and a community worth celebrating.
More than a weekend. It’s a tradition.
